The CrisisID Health Information Center provides a number of resources available to the general public to learn about health conditions, medications, treatments, health providers and general health information. Special attention has been made to select only web sites that are maintained by trustworthy organizations. Many are well known government sites or ones run by major teaching hospitals or health organizations.

HON Code of Conduct – many sites will display the Health On the Net Foundation’s logo seal indicating that they have passed strict the Code of Conduct requirements.

The leading web site is The National Institute of Health (NIH) which provides an extensive repository of all types of health information. Over a billion hits to the NIH Web sites are recorded each year.

With the computer power and communication systems that are available to the general public, healthcare experts are predicting that the future of healthcare will be based around informed-responsible consumers who will become the primary managers of their health and medical care. Even as we arm ourselves with this new knowledge we must avoid getting overconfident and remember that we must partner with qualified heath care providers. The internet only furnishes information, the provider brings knowledge and experience.
